Permanent employee, Full-time · Bremen

Why us?
POLARIS Raumflugzeuge GmbH develops innovative transportation systems that redefine access to space for payloads and passengers. With now 70 dedicated colleagues, we are working at two locations to make our vision reality. We are continuing to expand our team and are looking to fill the position of Turbine Test and Integration Engineer to design, execute and manage turbine testing and integration activities for our spaceplane demonstrators.

In this role you will work with cross-functional teams-mechanical, electrical and control-to validate turbine performance, reliability, and safety. You will be responsible for setting up test stands, writing test procedures, collecting and analysing data and ensuring safe turbine operations.
Your mission
  • Develop comprehensive test plans, procedures and safety documentation for turbine hardware and subsystems  and define performance, durability and safety and test metrics
  • Operate test-rigs, data-acquisition systems, and simulation tools to conduct static and dynamic tests and monitor real-time data streams, identify anomalies and troubleshoot hardware or software faults
  • Prepare detailed test reports, including root-cause analysis, recommendations, and validation against design criteria
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to integrate turbine components into prototypes and full-scale test set-ups, while identifying integration interfaces (mechanical, electrical or control) and resolve compatibility issues
  • Ensure all testing activities comply with industry standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO55001, ICE61508 and company safety policies)
  • Conduct hazard analyses, risk assessment and develop mitigation plans for high-pressure and high temperature requirements
  • Identify process gaps, recommend tooling or procedural upgrades and implement best-practices improvements in test methodology
Your profile
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering (or related field)
  • 2-3 year’s experience in turbine or high-performance engine testing, validation and managing test campaigns
  • Strong understanding of gas-turbine thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and material science
  • Experience with test-rig design, instrumentation (pressure transducers, thermocouples, flow meters) and data-acquisition systems (National Instruments, PXI, LabVIEW, MATLAB)
  • Familiarity with vibration analysis, acoustic diagnostics, and fatigue testing
  • Proficiency in data-analysis software (Python, MATLAB)
  • Knowledge of ISO9001, ISO 14001, ISO55001, ICE61508 and turbine-specific safety standards (API 618)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to produce clear technical documentation
  • Experience in dealing with turbine manufacturers and ability to use CFD of FEM analysis to support test design
  • Scripting (Python/PowerShell) for automation
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in cross functional, global teams
  • Proactive, flexible, and motivated mindset; start up experience is a plus

About us
The German aerospace start-up POLARIS Raumflugzeuge GmbH is developing a revolutionary reusable space launch and hypersonic transport system that operates like an aircraft.

Based on more than 30 years of German and European spaceplane research, the development of the spaceplane AURORA began at the German Aerospace Center DLR. Aurora combines aircraft and rocket launcher technologies with a unique vehicle design, and offers a game-changing economic viability as well as opening the door for routine low-cost and safe access to space.

In order to validate the technology and accelerate the spaceplane development, POLARIS has been developing a series of scaled flight demonstrators.
